Yesterday, House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp and Ranking Member Sander Levin, along with Trade Subcommittee Chairman Devin Nunes and Ranking Member Charlie Rangel, introduced H.R. 2709, which would renew GSP through September 30, 2015. You can read the Coalition’s statement here.

While this is a positive first step, the House will not actually vote on H.R. 2709 until the Senate approves similar legislation. The bill likely will need to pass the Senate by unanimous consent, or UC, meaning any one Senator can block renewal, as happened in 2010. Any attempts to amend the bill also jeopardize passage before July 31.

As a result, we need every company to contact its Senators and urge support for a straight extension of GSP through that date. We have updated our Senate contact page to reflect the new House legislation, so please please please take a few minutes to tell your Senators how critical it is for you that GSP pass the Senate by UC.
